Ever since I was little, I always fantasized about doing something extravagant in this world to make an impact. I was playing on my junior olympic team back in 6th grade, and I remember my future college coach pulled me to the sideline and told me, "Hayden, be an IMPACT on the field. Do not just let the game go by, be an IMPACT." That word has stayed with while I have been growing up. When I arrive at my soccer practices and games, I strive to make an impact and a moving presence on the field. This mentality has honestly changed my game a tenfold. But, soccer is not the only major passion in my life. I have always had a deep love for animals and helping people. How can a 17 year old make a lasting impact on people?
I went to my trusty friend, Google, and searched Wildlife Conservation volunteer opportunities. The website Amanzi Travel was in my search results. As I spent hours looking through every trip and reading the details and reviews on every trip, one trip stuck out to me in particular. "Teaching and Wildlife Volunteer in Namibia" is the header on the enticing trip. Before I get too far into detail about this trip, I must talk about a flaw of mine. I get crazy and costly ideas all the time, and I hype myself up and make it a main focus of my life, but then never follow through with it. Although this is a habit of mine, I believe that now I am at a more mature age, and I am heading into my senior year of high school and am ready for a big challenge and new adventure. The details on this project are: $695 for 2 weeks (not including plane rides), it is in Namibia, South Africa, and you go to care for animals and to help at a local school. So, that is all right now. I will see how it goes with future planning and stuff. The link below is the website to the Namibia volunteer center.
